technical documentation on wordpress SMTP settings -


i'm dev know nothing php , wordpress have root access on server wordpress installed.

i have wordpress mail not work (when asking forgotten password) , not understand available doc, don't want setup gmail account or office 365 or install plugins, want know smtp config.

can please give me technical doc on how setup mails on wordpress forgotten password link works?
