ios - App rejected because asking user registration (Guideline 5.1.1) -

my app catalog of ebook-like content. of free read, , other paid. need ask user email / password able retain information of content successfuly completed, or until chapter completed user can have information synced accross platforms.

however got rejection message :

apps cannot require user registration prior allowing access app content , features not associated user.

next steps

user registration requires sharing of personal information must optional or tied account-specific functionality.

to resolve issue, please make clear user registering enable them access content of ios devices , provide them way register @ time, if wish later extend access additional ios devices.

please note although guideline 3.1.2 of app store review guidelines requires app make subscription content available ios devices owned single user, not appropriate force user registration meet requirement; such user registration must made optional.

please resolve 5.1.1 issue , resubmit revised binary itunes connect.

i surprised know apps such feedly not allow subscribe rss feed unless create account.

how should problem solved ?

i have faced similar rejection. per guide lines app not supposed force registration. ended adding skip button on registration page. need add content users can view without registration. example user can preview free book (maybe first page only) can't read full book without registration.

you can keep asking user registration later when user browsing content.

there apps forced registration , available in appstore whatsapp. need strong arguments convince apple review team consider , it's possible if app can't work without registration. in case don't think that's true.
